Job Summary
As a Patient Access Scheduling Representative, you will play a vital role in ensuring seamless patient experiences by scheduling, registering, and pre-authorizing patients for diagnostic appointments, surgeries, and medical procedures. Under the guidance of our Patient Access leadership team, you will be responsible for providing courteous and efficient services to our patients, accurately documenting patient information, and maintaining knowledge of insurance and authorization requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule, register, and initiate pre-authorization and referrals process for patients undergoing diagnostic appointments, surgeries, and medical procedures.
 - Obtain and verify patient demographic and insurance information to ensure compliance with McLaren Health Care, governmental requirements, and third-party payer needs.
 - Provide exceptional customer service by accurately documenting and verifying patient pre-registration information in a timely and professional manner.
 - Collect, document, and scan required demographic and financial information.
 - Coordinate physician and diagnostic appointment scheduling.
 - Stay up-to-date with insurance and authorization requirements, performing real-time insurance verification and interpreting responses.
 - Inform patients of insurance requirements for services provided, including authorizations, pre-certifications, and referrals.
 - Estimate and collect copays, deductibles, and other patient financial obligations.
 - Handle inbound and outbound calls, focusing on growing business, customer satisfaction, and customer retention.
 - Maintain professionalism and diplomacy, adhering to departmental standards and policies.
 - Perform other duties as assigned by the Patient Access leadership team.
 
Essential Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
 - At least 1 year of experience in a customer service role or the healthcare industry.
 
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications will give you a competitive edge:
- 2 years of previous experience with third-party medical insurance, HMO, and managed care.
 - Experience with CPT and ICD-10 coding and medical terminology.
