This role is crucial in supporting our mission to provide sheltering services and resources to the homeless population in Salem, OR.

About the Role

As a Site Assistant at the ARCHES Navigation Center, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our services, providing direct support to clients, and contributing to the overall success of our programs. Working the overnight shift, you will be responsible for a range of duties that include supporting daily operations, assisting clients with navigation to resources, data collection and entry, and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate access to guest laundry and computers, ensuring clients have the resources they need.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing mail, handle clerical duties, and perform general administrative tasks.
  • Assist with program operations, including HMIS data entry, follow-up with clients, and providing navigation to resources.
  • Respond to guest inquiries about available services, local resources, and other needs.
  • Maintain a positive and supportive team culture, focusing on primary program goals.
  • Monitor program expectations and ensure a safe environment for clients and staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to adapt.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to meet our minimum qualifications and possess the skills and abilities outlined below.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) plus 2 years of experience in customer service or a social services role.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge or experience working with homeless, vulnerable, or at-risk populations.
  • Valid Food Handler's Card or the ability to obtain within 60 days.
  • Pass a comprehensive MWVCAA background screening prior to employment.

Essential Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic computer skills with intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills, both written and oral.
  • A positive attitude, with the ability to engage cooperatively and supportively with clients, staff, and program partners.
  • Tact, diplomacy, and empathy in formal and informal communication.
  • Flexibility to accept or trade shifts with short notice.
  • Ability to multitask, collaborate with staff and volunteers, and manage multiple demands.

Work Environment

This role requires on-site work at our ARCHES Navigation Center in Salem, OR, and is not eligible for remote work. You will be working in a shelter environment with clients who may be experiencing chronic homelessness, substance use disorders, and/or severe and persistent mental illness. The role involves:

  • Frequent mobility between areas of the shelter and/or sites.
  • Lifting and moving up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity for handling personal items and using computers.
  • Exposure to potential biohazards and the need for PPE and face coverings.
  • Varying shift options, including evenings, nights, and weekends.
