The Learning Technology Solution Architect will lead the design and evaluation of our client's future learning technology ecosystem as part of the Tech Stack Discovery Phase. This role requires deep expertise in EdTech platforms, standards, and architectures, with a strong ability to translate strategic learning goals into scalable technology designs. The architect will collaborate with consulting partners, internal stakeholders, and vendors to ensure the proposed ecosystem supports our client's 2030 vision of modular, skills-based, and enterprise-ready learning delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Current State Assessment

  • Review and document existing learning technology stack (LMS, content systems, credentialing, analytics).
  • Identify gaps in scalability, interoperability, learner experience, and B2B readiness.
Future State Design
  • Define a target-state architecture aligned with modular content, micro-credentials, skills frameworks, and global delivery.
  • Map integration requirements across LMS, content authoring, assessment, credentialing, analytics, and AI tools.
  • Ensure designs follow EdTech interoperability standards (LTI, xAPI, Caliper, SCORM).
Advisory & Roadmap Support
  • Provide input into the implementation roadmap: sequencing, dependencies, risks, and technical enablers.
  • Collaborate with consulting partner(s) to validate vendor proposals against company strategic needs.
  • Support cost estimation by advising on architecture choices, resourcing implications, and build vs buy trade-offs.
Innovation & Best Practices
  • Advise on emerging technologies (AI, adaptive learning, credential portability, MCP/Model Context Protocol for AI interoperability).
  • Recommend governance models for continuous evolution of the ecosystem.
  • Nice to have - Ensure accessibility (WCAG 2.2+) and inclusivity are built into all design recommendations.
Skills & Experience Required

Core EdTech Expertise:

  • Deep knowledge of LMS platforms (e.g., Canvas, Moodle, D2L, Blackboard) and their integration capabilities.
  • Hands-on experience with content platforms (authoring tools, LCMS, DAM systems).
  • Familiarity with assessment systems (formative, summative, adaptive testing).
  • Nice to Have - Knowledge of credentialing platforms * (micro-credentials, digital badges, blockchain-based credentials)
  • Strong grasp of data & analytics ecosystems in education (learner analytics, dashboards, data lakes).
Technical & Standards Knowledge:
  • Proficiency with interoperability standards: LTI Advantage, xAPI, SCORM, Caliper. CASE
  • Experience with identity & access management in learning ecosystems (SSO, SAML, OAuth2).
  • Understanding of AI in learning (personalization, tagging, analytics, conversational agents).
  • Knowledge of cloud-based architectures (preferably AWS or Azure for EdTech platforms).
Strategic & Consulting Skills:
  • Ability to map business/learning strategy to technical architecture.
  • Experience designing scalable, modular, and interoperable ecosystems in professional learning, higher education, certification, or corporate learning.
  • Strong solution assessment experience.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills - able to bridge learning leaders, IT, and vendors.
