Within our Data Science and Engineering (DSE) team, we utilize data to rigorously measure, optimize, and personalize our Customer Service investments. We are now seeking an experienced Data Engineer (L5) to join our team, focusing on Customer Service and data science. This role is an exceptional opportunity for a skilled data engineer to collaborate with cross-functional teams, build reliable data pipelines, and transform raw data into core business metrics.

Key Responsibilities

As a Data Engineer (L5) in our Customer Service team, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with data engineers, software engineers, and business owners to design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines using big data technologies such as Hive, Presto, Spark, and Flink.
  • Transforming raw data into actionable business metrics and insights, working closely with custom visualization tools to surface Customer Service insights.
  • Designing and implementing data models that are adaptable to changes in source data or business processes, ensuring strong data quality and integrity.
  • Developing and maintaining large-scale data sets (10s of millions of records), leveraging your expertise in data engineering and data science.
  • Working autonomously, with a high degree of technical judgment, to prioritize tasks and manage your workload effectively.
  • Communicating complex technical concepts and insights to non-technical stakeholders, including analysts, engineers, and business leaders, to drive data-informed decision-making.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • At least 4 years of experience in engineering data pipelines using big data technologies, with a strong focus on scalability, reliability, and data quality.
  • Strong data modeling skills, with the ability to design structures that adapt to changes in source data or business processes.
  • Proficiency in Python or Scala, with a passion for writing clean, supportable code and a commitment to software engineering best practices.
  • Advanced SQL skills, with a strong understanding of data quality principles and a keen eye for detail.
  • Analytical aptitude, with the ability to think through complex business problems, develop metrics, and prioritize tasks autonomously.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working with cross-functional teams, including analysts, engineers, and business leaders.

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Experience working with cloud-based data platforms, such as AWS or GCP, and a strong understanding of cloud-based data engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools, such as Tableau, Power BI, or D3.js, and experience working with custom visualization tools to surface insights.
  • Knowledge of machine learning principles and experience working with machine learning algorithms, with a focus on applying these principles to real-world business problems.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment, with a strong understanding of agile methodologies and a commitment to continuous improvement.
