Role Overview

We're seeking a highly skilled Media Streaming Engineer to join our Media Delivery Live team. As a Media Streaming Engineer, you'll be responsible for implementing, maintaining, monitoring, and supporting live streaming workflows for Disney Streaming's video encoding and segmenting products. This is a mid-level position that requires a strong background in audio/video production technologies, media streaming knowledge, and IT system administration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor live event and linear channel workflows to ensure smooth and high-quality video streaming experiences
  • Troubleshoot encoding and segmentation issues, and provide solutions to minimize impact on customer video experience
  • Independently develop and carry out engineering projects to support evolving workflows and requirements
  • Provide maintenance and support for live encoders and packagers
  • Offer training to internal team members on live encoder and packaging workflows
  • Document workflows and standard operating procedures to ensure knowledge sharing and process improvement
  • Provide guidance to external teams on live encoder and packaging workflows
  • Identify and implement optimizations related to monitoring and video streaming performance

Requirements and Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of progressively complex related experience in audio/video production technologies, media streaming, or IT system administration
  • BA/BS or equivalent experience required
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong aptitude to learn new technical concepts and adapt to changing workflows
  • Strong multi-tasking abilities and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently to solve problems in both video and IT domains
  • Basic understanding of DAI workflows in broadcast and OTT environments
  • Basic understanding of video fundamentals, live video transmission acquisition, and OTT encoding distribution workflows
  • Knowledge of IP video delivery protocols (HLS, MPEG-TS, DASH)
  • Knowledge of video codecs and compression (H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC)
  • Knowledge of audio codecs and containers (AAC, PCM, AC-3, EAC-3, MPEG-1 Layer-II)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Linux systems administration experience
  • Experience troubleshooting with hosts, including applications and services, on Linux operating systems (CentOS)
  • Knowledge of at least one programming/scripting language (BASH, Python, Ruby)
  • Basic scripting experience
  • Some experience with open-source encoding software such as FFMPEG or GStreamer
  • Comfortable reading xml/json
  • Experience with REST API communication, either manually (cURL/Postman), or programmatically (through a scripting language library)
  • Basic experience with command-line video tools like FFMPEG, MP4Box, and TSDuck
  • Experience writing technical documentation for consumption by both technical and non-technical people
  • Experience working with technology in mid-size to large data centers

The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $99,900.00 to $133,900.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
