The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (FAMSF) is a world-renowned institution dedicated to the preservation, education, and celebration of art and culture. About the Internship Program
The FAMSF Summer Internship Program is an 8-week, paid opportunity that provides a unique and enriching experience for students, emerging professionals, and those just entering the workforce. Our program is designed to introduce participants to the inner workings of a world-class museum, while also providing a platform for professional growth, networking, and community engagement. This year, we are offering eight internship positions across various departments, including Registration and Collections Management, Digital Product, Facilities and Operations, Paper Conservation, Arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas, Development, European Decorative Arts and Sculpture, and Design.
Key Responsibilities
- Gain direct experience and knowledge of museum careers in a paid, full-time eight-week program.
- Receive mentorship and guidance by museum staff to support departmental goals and individual projects.
- Participate in professional development opportunities such as weekly Career Insights guest speaker series, software training, and site visits to local cultural institutions.
- Join a network of emerging museum professionals.

Qualifications
We are seeking highly motivated and passionate individuals who are committed to the arts and museums. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, and a willingness to learn and grow. The following qualifications are required:
- Education: A High School Diploma/GED (graduating class of 2024) with at least 2 years of work and/or volunteer experience; OR Current college students: community college, university, vocational/trade school, graduate school; OR Recent college graduates: no more than 2 years since graduating program by the start of the internship program; OR Some college experience: community college, university, vocational/trade school.
- Age: All interns must be at least 18 years old by the start of the internship program.
- Time and Place: This internship requires a commitment of 35 hours per week for 8 weeks. Interns will work onsite at the de Young and Legion of Honor Museums. Some work from home may be available depending on the intern's department.
- Location: Preference will be given to those who live or go to school in one of San Francisco Bay Area's nine counties: San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, Napa, San Mateo, Solano, Napa, Sonoma, Marin.

Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are preferred but not required:
- Previous experience in a museum or arts-related field.
- Knowledge of museum collections, exhibitions, or programming.
- Experience with software applications, such as Microsoft Office or Adobe Creative Suite.
- Ability to speak multiple languages.
