About the Role: Netflix Data Engineer

We're seeking a skilled Data Engineer to join our Information Framework Teams, a group of innovators who empower Netflix to make data-driven decisions that delight our members worldwide. As a Data Engineer at Netflix, you'll be part of a dynamic team that's responsible for building and maintaining the data infrastructure that underpins our streaming service. Your work will be crucial in enabling our business stakeholders to access and utilize data effectively, safely, and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain large-scale distributed systems and applications that can handle the demands of a global streaming service.
• Build and operate scalable, fault-tolerant, and highly available distributed foundations that support our data infrastructure.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, product managers, and technical program managers, to drive projects forward and deliver results.
• Share your expertise with the open-source community and contribute to Netflix's open-source initiatives.
• Address complex business needs at scale by applying your programming and analytical problem-solving skills.

Our Information Framework Teams are organized into several focus areas, each with its own unique challenges and opportunities. These include:

• Data Set Access Stage: Building an adaptable query gateway that facilitates data abstractions to work at sub-millisecond latencies.
• Data Stage Foundation: Creating high-impact system, control, and organization frameworks that are calibrated for the needs of running our data frameworks at scale.
• Data Development and Handling: Enabling diverse client personas across Netflix to meet their low-latency data development and handling needs through a self-service, streamlined product.
• Big Data Compute: Providing a cloud-native platform for distributed data processing at Netflix, with a focus on technologies like Spark, Presto/Trino, Druid, and Iceberg.
• Big Data Orchestration: Offering a platform for planning, organizing, and executing large data jobs and workflows in a self-serve manner.

About You: Qualifications and Skills

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

• 2+ years of experience building large-scale distributed systems or applications.
• Proficiency in designing and developing RESTful web services.
• Experience building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems.
• Knowledge of Java or other object-oriented programming languages.
• Comfort with multi-threading and concurrency.
• A BS in Computer Science or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with distributed data processing frameworks like Spark, Flink, or similar technologies.
• Familiarity with data storage solutions like relational databases, NoSQL databases, or data warehousing solutions.
• Knowledge of cloud computing platforms, particularly AWS.
• Experience with containerization (e.g., Docker) and orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes).
