Job Overview
In this part-time position, you will have the opportunity to teach a diverse range of students and contribute to the development of our FCS program. As a High School FCS Teacher, you will be responsible for creating engaging lesson plans, assessing student progress, and providing individualized support to ensure that all students meet their full potential. You will be an integral part of our school community, working closely with colleagues, parents, and students to promote academic achievement, social growth, and emotional well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that align with state and national standards for FCS education
- Teach a variety of FCS courses, including but not limited to nutrition, food science, textiles, and human development
- Assess student progress and understanding through a range of evaluation methods, including quizzes, tests, projects, and presentations
- Provide individualized support and feedback to students, including those with diverse learning needs and abilities
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement school-wide initiatives and programs that promote academic excellence and social responsibility
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians through regular progress updates, parent-teacher conferences, and other forms of communication
- Stay up-to-date with developments in FCS education and incorporate new technologies, methodologies, and resources into teaching practices
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university
- A valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate with proper endorsement in FCS or a related field
- Strong knowledge and understanding of FCS concepts, principles, and practices
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, parents, and community members from diverse backgrounds and with diverse needs
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities
Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications are preferred:
- A Master's degree in education or a related field
- Experience teaching FCS or a related subject at the high school level
- Knowledge and experience with project-based learning, technology integration, and other innovative teaching methodologies
- Experience working with students with diverse learning needs and abilities, including English language learners and students with disabilities
- Leadership experience, such as department chair or team leader, or experience with curriculum development and implementation
