About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Gallery Teacher to join our team of educators and lead participatory gallery experiences for K-12 school groups. As a Gallery Teacher, you will have the opportunity to inspire young minds, foster a love of art and learning, and contribute to the museum's mission to educate and engage the public. This is a part-time, non-exempt position, approximately 16 hours per week, with a competitive hourly rate of $25.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach one to two K-12 lessons each day, Monday, Thursday, and Friday, using object-based and inquiry-based teaching approaches
  • Collaborate with school and teacher programs team members to develop lessons and materials
  • Thoroughly prepare lesson plans and teaching materials in advance of tours
  • Attend weekly school and teacher programs staff meetings and participate in ongoing professional development
  • Attend and actively participate in trainings and perform other duties as assigned

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience teaching children in a museum, classroom, or other arts organization
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment and engage with a wide range of people, including PreK-12 students and their teachers and other Museum staff
  • Background knowledge of elementary or secondary education and art and/or art history desired

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience using object-based and inquiry-based teaching approaches
  • Background knowledge of art and/or art history
  • Familiarity with the Philadelphia Museum of Art's collection and exhibitions
