Job Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Long Term Substitute Para-Educator to join our team. As a Para-Educator, you will work under the direct supervision of a certified special education case manager to provide instructional and behavioral support in a classroom setting. You may also be required to provide 1:1 support for a student. This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our students and contribute to their academic and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide instructional support to students in a classroom setting, including assisting with lesson plans, preparing materials, and helping students with assignments
 - Offer behavioral support to students, including helping them develop social skills, managing behaviors, and providing positive reinforcement
 - Work 1:1 with a student to provide individualized support and instruction, as needed
 - Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
 - Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced educational environment
 - Collaborate with teachers, case managers, and other support staff to ensure a cohesive and effective educational program
 - Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge
 
Qualifications and Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need to meet the following essential qualifications:
- College graduate or evidence of having passed the ParaPro assessment
 - Previous experience working in an educational setting, preferably in special education
 - Connecticut teaching certificate preferred
 - Ability to work in multiple educational settings, including classrooms and 1:1 settings
 - Flexibility, patience, and understanding when working with students with diverse needs
 - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
 - Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
 
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with students with special needs, including autism, emotional disabilities, and learning disabilities
 - Knowledge of special education laws and regulations, including IDEA and Section 504
 - Experience with behavioral support strategies, including positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS)
 - Ability to speak multiple languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, or other languages spoken by our student population
