Job Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Long Term Substitute Para-Educator to join our team. As a Para-Educator, you will work under the direct supervision of a certified special education case manager to provide instructional and behavioral support in a classroom setting. You may also be required to provide 1:1 support for a student. Key Responsibilities:

• Provide instructional support to students in a classroom setting, including assisting with lesson plans, preparing materials, and helping students with assignments
• Offer behavioral support to students, including helping them develop social skills, managing behaviors, and providing positive reinforcement
• Work 1:1 with a student to provide individualized support and instruction, as needed
• Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
• Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced educational environment
• Collaborate with teachers, case managers, and other support staff to ensure a cohesive and effective educational program
• Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge

Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to meet the following essential qualifications:

• College graduate or evidence of having passed the ParaPro assessment
• Previous experience working in an educational setting, preferably in special education
• Connecticut teaching certificate preferred
• Ability to work in multiple educational settings, including classrooms and 1:1 settings
• Flexibility, patience, and understanding when working with students with diverse needs
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with students with special needs, including autism, emotional disabilities, and learning disabilities
• Knowledge of special education laws and regulations, including IDEA and Section 504
• Experience with behavioral support strategies, including positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS)
• Ability to speak multiple languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, or other languages spoken by our student population
