Job Overview: Auditor Coding Educator and Trainer

We are seeking an experienced Auditor Coding Educator and Trainer to join our team in a remote position based in Chesterfield, MO. As an Auditor Coding Educator and Trainer, you will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing documentation present in the medical record for inpatient, outpatient, and/or professional services to analyze diagnoses/procedure codes as described by the provider(s) of record. This position requires a strong and diverse skillset in relevant areas, including medical coding, compliance, and education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze medical records to ensure accurate coding and compliance with governmental billing regulations
  • Perform revenue audit functions as assigned, including analyzing and presenting complex revenue information to support operational and strategic decision-making
  • Provide compliance support to the organization's revenue cycle, including oversight and analysis of quarterly RVU reports and assistance with physician incentive requirements
  • Prepare reports of findings and meet with providers and/or coders to provide education and training on accurate coding practices and compliance issues
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to facilitate compliant processes and provide support to the organization's revenue cycle

Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

Essential Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of coding experience in ICD-9-CM diagnosis/procedure coding and HCPCS/CPT procedure coding in an acute care or professional services setting
  • Awareness of coding requirements based on payors, including MS DRG, APC, CPT, ICD, and HCPCS
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Certifications such as Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) preferred

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience in healthcare coding and compliance-related activities, including audits, edits, and compliance program management
  • Experience with OIG and DOJ investigation project management and compliance committee participation
  • Knowledge of state, federal, and local regulations and requirements pertaining to documentation, coding, and billing
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data and present findings in a clear and concise manner
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and provide education and training to providers and coders
  • Strong knowledge of medical coding and compliance regulations, including ICD-9-CM, HCPCS, and CPT
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong sense of accountability and attention to detail
