About the Role: Intake Specialist

The Intake Specialist will play a vital role in our team, utilizing their expertise to drive the success of our cost estimate function, benefits investigation, and authorization process. As an Intake Specialist, you will have a strong understanding of the medical intake process and will be responsible for ensuring that incoming referrals are processed timely and accurately. Your intake expertise, strategic planning acumen, penchant for accuracy, and problem-solving skills will be essential in this key role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Aid in the patient benefit investigation and prior authorization process, ensuring that all required documentation is obtained from referral sources to secure successful authorization attainment
  • Serve as a patient champion, ensuring that patients understand their cost responsibilities before they are scheduled for treatment, and providing exceptional customer service to patients, providers, and team members
  • Act as the subject matter expert (SME) of the Uptiv Health intake function, fielding questions from patients, providers, and team members, and providing guidance and support as needed
  • Track, report, and escalate service issues arising from requests for authorizations or other issues that delay therapy, to avoid delays that may interrupt therapy and ensure seamless patient care

Essential Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • At least 4 years of experience in Intake (authorization), Medical Billing, and/or Collections, with a strong preference for experience in the infusion setting
  • Keen attention to detail and experience working with payers/vendors, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong knowledge of health insurance plans, the authorization process, and requirements to convert a referral into an authorization
  • Emotional intelligence, strong relational skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with referral sources, team members, and vendors in methods appropriate for the audience

Preferred Qualifications:

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience in the infusion setting, with a strong understanding of the complexities of chronic care delivery
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data and make informed decisions
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHRs) and other healthcare software applications
