Course Description: MSHF 640 - Human Physiology and Adaptation
This online course examines the principles and critical elements of human physiology, with a focus on how the human body maintains a steady state while adapting to outside conditions, a process called homeostasis. Topics include:
- Human performance capabilities, challenges, and adaptations in low and high-altitude/space flight, low-pressure, and low-gravity environments
- Physics of atmosphere and radiation environments
- Acceleration physiology and systemic physiological responses
- Sensorimotor interactions and environmental pathologies (e.g., circadian dysrhythmia, spatial disorientation, hypoxia, visual anomalies)
- Effects of stimulants, disease, and injury on human systems
Responsibilities
As an Adjunct Faculty member, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Teaching online courses to students worldwide
- Developing and delivering course materials, including lectures, assignments, and assessments
- Engaging with students and providing support through online discussions and office hours
- Evaluating student performance and providing feedback
- Participating in course development and curriculum planning
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- A doctoral degree with a dissertation, cognate, or 18 graduate credit hours in a related discipline (e.g., Physiology, Human, Flight, Aerospace Ergonomics, Physical, Cognitive Human Factors Engineering, Management Engineering Safety, Biomechanical, Biomedical Health & Safety, Occupational, Environmental Safety, Industrial/Occupational/Management/Science, Medical/Medicine/Aeromedical)
- Significant levels of experience and responsibility in industry or government, particularly in Human, Aerospace, or Flight Physiology
- Applicable professional certification (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP))
Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in teaching or online education
- Knowledge of online learning platforms and technologies
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
