Key Responsibilities
- Consult with instructors about course materials to determine academic needs and develop effective tutoring strategies
- Be at work during scheduled tutoring times and maintain a regular schedule
- Create a comfortable, respectful learning environment during sessions, promoting active learning and student engagement
- Assist students with their academic needs, providing individualized support and guidance
- Sanitize and clean laboratory equipment and facilities, maintaining a safe and healthy environment
- Develop and implement effective tutoring methods, using best practices and research-based strategies
- Collaborate with instructors and other teaching assistants to ensure consistency and quality of academic support
- Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions, including student progress and feedback
Essential Qualifications
- Course proficiency in biology, as demonstrated by transcript and interview with committee members
- Effective oral, written, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and concisely
- Attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate records and manage multiple responsibilities
- Ability to relate to students and tutor appropriately, with a strong commitment to student success and well-being
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field
- Previous experience as a teaching assistant or tutor in biology or a related field
- Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and with varying levels of academic ability
- Knowledge of best practices in tutoring and academic support, with a commitment to ongoing professional development

- Strong knowledge of biology concepts and principles, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely
