Job Summary
As an Elementary School Tutor, you'll be responsible for providing supplemental literacy practice to students in small groups, using a prescribed literacy program. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young learners and support their academic growth. You'll work closely with our team of educators to deliver high-quality tutoring sessions, track student progress, and communicate with parents, teachers, and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct small group and one-on-one tutoring sessions with students using literacy materials provided by DECA PREP
 - Assist children to improve their reading skills and abilities to reach grade level expectations
 - Build a strong rapport with students and communicate with them in an age and developmentally appropriate way
 - Regularly review student data to gauge the effectiveness of the literacy intervention being used and determine if a change in strategy is necessary
 - Establish and maintain effective communication with parents, teachers, tutors, building leadership, and other key stakeholders to ensure the success of the program
 - Act on feedback and coaching from Instructional Coaches, Classroom Teachers, and Building Administrators
 - Ensure confidentiality of all student records and diagnostic scores
 - Assess, with a high level of accuracy, students' continual progress through progress monitoring and benchmarking
 - Document students' weekly progress scores and interventions using an online database system
 - Demonstrate a positive, supportive, enthusiastic, and encouraging attitude with all students and staff
 - Attend faculty meetings and other staff development and planning sessions as determined by the building Principal
 - Supervise children in non-instructional situations as assigned
 - Perform other duties as assigned
 
Essential Qualifications
- Valid Ohio teaching license
 - Interest in education, specifically helping young children develop early literacy skills
 - Effective interpersonal skills with children and adults
 - An affinity for supporting students as individual learners
 - Sound student and classroom management skills
 - Ability to improvise and problem solve
 - Experience with technology-integration in the teaching and learning process
 - Effective in an interdisciplinary, teamed environment
 - Entrepreneurial spirit
 - Dedication to the mission of assuring student learning and achievement
 
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
 - Experience working with students in kindergarten through fourth grade
 - Familiarity with literacy programs and curriculum
 - Strong organizational and time management skills
