Tesla, a pioneer in the electric vehicle and clean energy industry, is seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join its remote team. As a Senior Data Engineer at Tesla, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining the company's data infrastructure, driving business growth, and accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy.

Tesla was founded in 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning, with the name paying tribute to the renowned inventor and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be part of the Information and Analysis team within the Applications Designing group, working on critical subsystems of Tesla's products and driving business navigation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, Develop, and Maintain Data Pipelines: Configure, code, test, correct, and document programs and scripts using agreed-upon principles and tools to achieve a well-designed outcome.
  • Data Management Strategy: Determine a general approach to data management within an established data architecture that supports the development and secure operation of existing and new data and digital services.
  • Data Processing and Quality: Gather and process raw, structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data using batch and real-time data processing frameworks, ensuring data quality and implementing tools and frameworks for automating the identification of data quality issues.
  • Collaboration and Leadership: Collaborate with internal and external data suppliers on data validation, providing feedback and making necessary improvements to data feeds and mappings. Coach and lead data engineers, providing technical guidance and oversight.
  • Ongoing Support and Monitoring: Offer ongoing support, monitoring, and maintenance of deployed products, working with systems that handle sensitive data with strict SOX controls and change management processes.
  • Innovation and Improvement: Provide timely and accurate assessments of newly proposed functionality upgrades, developing, authorizing, and recommending improvements to Applications in the area of standards, methodologies, compliance, and quality assurance practices.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong Experience in Data Engineering: Solid experience in relational and multi-parallel processing databases like Vertica, SQL Server, and MySQL. NoSQL databases experience is a plus.
  • Data Warehousing and Modeling: Strong background in data warehousing, data modeling, data access, and data storage techniques.
  • SQL and Query Writing: Strong proficiency in SQL and query writing is required.
  • ETL/ELT Pipelines: Create, maintain, and improve ETL/ELT pipelines using Python and Wind stream.
  • API Knowledge: Knowledge of common APIs: REST, Cleanser.
  • Scalable Software Systems: Experience with design, development, and implementation of highly scalable, high-volume software systems and components, source of truth systems for various business areas.
  • Heavenly Dashboards and Reports: Strong experience with creating heavenly dashboards and reports for C-Level executives.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to design effective solutions.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Strong communication, organizational, negotiation skills, and adaptability to address competing demands.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Data Science Tools: Experience with data science tools like Pandas, Numpy, R, Tensorflow, Keras.
  • Distributed Computing: Understanding of distributed computing, such as how HDFS, Spark, and Presto work.
  • SSIS, Informatica: Work experience with SSIS, Informatica.
  • Real-Time Messaging Tools: Knowledge of real-time messaging tools, such as RabbitMQ, Kafka, Apache Beam, Apache Flink, Spark.
  • Big Data Processing: Experience in Big Data processing using Apache Hadoop/Spark environment applications like Hadoop, Hive, Spark, and HDFS.
  • Docker/Kubernetes/Jenkins CI/CD Pipeline: Experience working with a framework at scale and with Docker/Kubernetes/Jenkins CI/CD pipeline.
