About the Department and the Role

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Skidmore College is comprised of approximately 12 full-time faculty members and is housed in the state-of-the-art Billie Tisch Center for Integrated Sciences. This environment fosters interdisciplinary connections and collaboration across the sciences, arts, and humanities. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a broad range of courses within the mathematics curriculum, develop courses for the First-Year Experience (FYE) seminar program and senior seminar, and demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research in an undergraduate liberal arts setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach a variety of courses within the mathematics curriculum, including courses for the FYE seminar program and senior seminar, with a typical teaching load of 3:2 or 18 contact hours per year.
  • Develop and maintain a robust research program in pure mathematics, with a focus on involving undergraduate students.
  • Contribute to the department and college through service and leadership roles, demonstrating a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Participate in tenure review and other faculty evaluation processes.
  • Engage with the college community through various forms of scholarship, service, and other academic activities.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must possess a doctorate in mathematics with a research focus in pure mathematics. A strong commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate students is essential, as is the ability to contribute to the department's and college's mission through service and leadership.
