Key Responsibilities

• Operate school buses on assigned routes, adhering to established time schedules and ensuring the safety of students.
• Transport students to and from school, as well as on special event trips, such as field trips and athletic events.
• Conduct daily safety inspections of the bus and report any issues or malfunctions.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment within the bus, including washing, sweeping, and polishing the interior.
• Provide minor first aid and handle situations with tact and diplomacy.
• Prepare daily reports on student loads, mileage, and trip details.
• Escort children across streets when necessary and stop traffic to ensure their safety.
• Transport students with special needs, requiring a high level of patience and understanding.
• Perform other related duties as assigned, such as removing graffiti from bus seats.

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following minimum qualifications:

• Possess a valid Type-1 School Bus Special Driver Certificate issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
• Hold a valid Class A or Class B California Driver License with a passenger endorsement or equivalent.
• Have a current medical certificate approved by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
• Be able to be insured and continue to be insurable by the District's liability insurance carrier.
• Provide a copy of your current three-year driving record at the time of application.
• Successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination and pre-employment drug test.
• Be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, as per Board policy.

Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

• Previous experience as a school bus driver or in a related field.
• Knowledge of safe driving practices, basic first aid, and automotive safety and maintenance requirements.
• Familiarity with the California Motor Vehicle Code, Education Code, and California Administrative Code, Title 13.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
