About the Opportunity

We're seeking a highly skilled and imaginative Lead Technical Artist to lead the technical and artistic vision for our latest AAA multi-platform game project. As a key member of our team, you'll be responsible for guiding the technical direction, mentoring junior artists, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring our creative vision to life.

Key Responsibilities

• Mentorship and Guidance: Tutor and guide character artists and other team members in technical topics, sharing best practices and expertise to elevate the team's overall performance.
• Collaboration and Leadership: Work closely with leads, directors, and other stakeholders to ensure that the technical and artistic aspects of the project meet the highest standards.
• Technical Pipeline Development: Research, define, and maintain DCC pipelines, processes, and workflows to optimize the production pipeline and improve overall efficiency.
• Tool Development and Implementation: Collaborate with specialists, artists, coders, and creators to design and implement tools and workflows that enhance the production process.
• Problem-Solving and Innovation: Identify and solve complex technical problems by envisioning and developing robust technical solutions.
• Asset Creation and Maintenance: Develop and maintain rigging toolsets and character development workflows to ensure seamless character creation and animation.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Participate in broader game development discussions, providing input on battle design, animation, and character art to ensure a cohesive and engaging gaming experience.

Essential Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

• Proven Experience: At least 4+ years of relevant experience in a technical art role, with a strong background in game development.
• Leadership Experience: Experience as a team lead on at least one AAA title, with a proven track record of guiding teams to success.
• Technical Skills: Strong Unreal Engine knowledge, with a deep understanding of Maya and its toolset.
• Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python and/or C++, with a strong understanding of Maya's API and Qt.
• Production Pipeline Expertise: Ability to spearhead effective production-oriented rigging situations and workflows.
• Portfolio: A strong portfolio showcasing significant technical art experience in games, including tools, pipelines, and other relevant projects.

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following skills and experiences will give you a competitive edge:

• Shader Knowledge: Working knowledge of shaders, particularly as they relate to animation.
• Polygon Modeling and Topology: Experience with polygon modeling and topology changes related to character deformations.
• Anatomy and Character Development: Knowledge of human and animal anatomy, with a keen eye for structure and movement.
• Procedural Tools: Experience with procedural tools like Houdini, and a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
• Gaming Enthusiasm: A passion for gaming and a deep understanding of the gaming industry.
