Role Overview


This Part Time Finance Director position is a hybrid role that requires occasional visits to our head office in Oxfordshire, with the majority of work being conducted remotely. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced finance professional who can commit to working 3-4 days per week. The initial contract duration is approximately 3 months, with the possibility of extension or review. As a key member of our finance team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality financial support, guidance, and expertise to our leadership team, headteachers, and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities



  • Provide senior financial support and guidance to the leadership team, headteachers, and other stakeholders

  • Act as a key liaison with auditors, ensuring seamless communication and compliance with financial regulations

  • Deliver monthly financial and management accounts, providing insightful analysis and recommendations for improvement

  • Monitor and manage budgets, working closely with headteachers to ensure effective financial planning and resource allocation

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive financial models, forecasts, and reports to inform strategic decision-making

  • Collaborate with the leadership team to develop and implement financial strategies, policies, and procedures

  • Provide expert advice and guidance on financial matters, including budgetary overspend scenarios and mitigation strategies

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, policies, and procedures, maintaining the highest standards of financial governance and risk management

Essential Qualifications and Experience


To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications and experience:



  • A fully qualified accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent)

  • Proven experience as a Finance Director or similar senior financial leadership role, preferably in a Multi Academy Trust or educational setting

  • Strong knowledge and experience of financial management, accounting, and budgeting principles, including PS Financials

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information in a clear and concise manner

  • Experience of working with auditors, developing financial narratives, and providing insightful analysis and recommendations

  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with headteachers, leadership teams, and other stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications and Experience


While not essential, the following qualifications and experience are highly desirable:



  • Experience of working in a remote or hybrid environment, with the ability to self-motivate and manage workload effectively

  • Knowledge of educational finance, funding, and budgeting principles, including academy funding and financial regulations

  • Experience of developing and implementing financial strategies, policies, and procedures in a Multi Academy Trust or similar setting

  • Strong IT skills, including proficiency in financial software and systems, such as PS Financials, and Microsoft Office applications

  • A strong understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion principles, with a commitment to promoting and embedding these values in all aspects of work
