Job Summary
As a Professional Fee Coder, you will be responsible for coding and abstracting physician services performed in the hospital setting according to AHA, AMA, guidelines, and CMS directives. You will utilize 3M Encoder for validation of RVUs and CPT-4 procedure unbundling and maintain a 95% coding accuracy rate as measured through quality reviews. This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Coding and abstracting professional fee hospital services performed by SLPG physicians from medical records according to ICD-10, CPT-4, HCPCS II, and CMS guidelines
- Utilizing 3M Encoder for validation of RVUs and CPT-4 procedure unbundling
- Maintaining a 95% coding accuracy rate as measured through quality reviews
- Maintaining daily productivity as outlined
- Responsible for maintaining up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines as they relate to physician services for hospital inpatient, observation, consultant, surgical, critical care, and E & M services
- Performing data entry of abstracted physician information into specialty-specific databases
- Conducting educational sessions to the medical staff for coding and documentation compliance
Requirements and Qualifications
Education and Certifications
The ideal candidate will have one of the following certifications: RHIA, RHIT, CPC, or CCS-P, with a working knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding. A degree in a related field, such as health information management or medical records, is preferred.
Experience and Training
A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in CPT/HCPCS physician procedural coding is required. Previous experience with computerized patient records and coding systems is preferred. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, as well as excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
