About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Remote Production Operations Producer II to manage the execution of operational, technical, and logistical aspects of remote-based sports television productions. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for interpreting, implementing, and managing the application of departmental standards related to remote television broadcasts and their impact on the accuracy, cost, and timeliness of assigned events. This role has a day count limit of 125 days in a year (calendar year), and as a non-exclusive staff position, you will have the opportunity to work with other clients outside of ESPN, provided you are available for 125 days of work in accordance with all sport/event assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all operational and technical aspects of assigned remote events, ensuring that all aspects of the production are executed to the highest standard.
  • Provide guidance and training to Remote Operations staff, including Operations Coordinators and technical crew, to ensure that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively.
  • As on-site management of personnel, ensure that ESPN Workplace Conduct and Safety Policies are followed, including vetting and authorizing any on-site personnel.
  • Ensure that appropriate timelines are met for technical and financial planning, and create and build event-specific paperwork, including surveys, tech books, and post reports, to ensure accuracy and timeliness of reporting.
  • Facilitate the troubleshooting of complex technical, operational, and personnel issues as they arise on site, and follow up with appropriate support groups in relation to persistent and serious issues.
  • Oversee all on-site activity with crew, including the approval of time-entry, travel, overtime, catering, and meals.
  • Responsible for overseeing and addressing performance issues while on-site with crew, as necessary.
  • Possess an advanced knowledge of current broadcast standards as well as potential future developments, and attend industry events as assigned by Management in relation to specific assignments.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new technologies for assigned remote-based events, and work closely with the Remote Operations department to ensure that all aspects of the production are executed to the highest standard.

Required Qualifications

  • Requires regular travel to remote events, which could include international locations, and the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays throughout the year in accordance with sport schedules.
  • Has knowledge of organization, procurement, financial, and logistics planning related to show creation, and the ability to work events with extended length, including NBA Playoffs and Summer League.
  • Working knowledge of differing production models, as well as signal flow, scalability, and transmission, and knowledge of developments in equipment technology and procedures.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, including voice and email communication, and conflict resolution skills, and the ability to administer proper hiring and payment policies.
  • Has and applies strong knowledge of the technical equipment requirements of ESPN's remote operations functions, and operates within the defined goals of the Remote Operations department.
  • Maintains communication flow with peers in sharing best practices and maximizing third-party vendor contacts, and is fluent in common computer-based software programs used for data compilation, information distribution, and presentations.
  • Fluent in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word, and has familiarity with online collaboration tools like Smartsheets.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of related technical and/or operational planning, on-site management, and procurement experience, and knowledge of technical software-based tools, with relevance to broadcast planning.
  • Solid knowledge of comms workflow in relation to technical broadcast plan fulfillment, and established relationships throughout the broadcast industry in relation to third-party vendors and clients.

Required Education

High School Diploma required.

Preferred Education

Bachelor's Degree or Technical School Degree in Communications, Broadcasting, or Related field preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

The hiring range for this remote position is $86,229 to $89,960 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
