Job Description
As a Senior Big Data Analyst at Southwest Airlines, you will serve as an internal consultant and problem expert, responsible for managing the end-to-end lifecycle of data management across various systems, volumes, variety, and velocity of data. This role involves sourcing data, performing thorough data assessment to identify patterns, and collaborating with stakeholders to drive business growth through data-driven insights.
Key Responsibilities
- Leads complex self-service data integration tasks that bring together data from disparate sources to make it available to business customers, including data scientists, analysts, and analytic users.
 - Leads informal teams to apply advanced data integration methodologies and systems to big data sets to create solutions that can be applied in descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics.
 - Drives interaction with functional leaders across multiple and concurrent projects.
 - Drives design and communication of solutions and recommendations.
 - Serves as a subject matter expert for data assets and monitors the ongoing effectiveness of data assets in use by business customers in self-service environments.
 - Supports the ongoing development of the Southwest Airlines data technology center and network.
 - May perform other process responsibilities as directed by Employee's Leaders.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- Advanced knowledge of both inductive and deductive reasoning and problem-solving approaches.
 - Advanced knowledge in evaluating appropriate data analytics and statistical approach(es) for a business problem.
 - Knowledge in developing plans and leading moderately or extremely complex data integration tasks, including acting as a functional leader in stakeholder meetings, solution definition and planning, task assignment and deliverable definition and creation, and project timeline creation.
 - Skilled in one or more data programming languages and open-source systems.
 - Skilled in one or more data integration and business intelligence systems.
 - Skilled in technology systems and architectures applicable to developing and maintaining self-service data assets.
 - Skilled in critical thinking and project management talents.
 - Ability to manually communicate in a compelling way with strong verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
 - Ability to adapt well to many situations and change approaches/methodologies if necessary to effectively and efficiently meet objectives.
 - Ability to mentor team members on data integration methodologies and systems.
 
Education and Experience
A Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Computer or Data Sciences, Information Technology, or similar fields of study is required. Alternatively, equivalent growth diploma experience will be considered.
Professional diploma experience with expansive and prolonged experience in:
- Data assessment, advanced analytics, data technology, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or optimization project experience.
 - Data pipeline, data technology, and/or relevant programming.
 - Visualization and presentation development and delivery.
 - Solving ambiguous and complex issues through a systems thinking approach.
 
Preferred qualifications include experience working in Python, SQL, ETL, Alteryx, Informatica, Ab Initio, AWS Glue, AWS, AWS S3, AWS Sagemaker, and AWS Redshift, as well as broad knowledge of the airline industry.
