Position Summary

The Core Insurance Platform (CIP) organization is seeking an experienced Staff Engineer with a passion for building high-performance, low maintenance, zero-downtime platforms and applications. As a lead member of the engineering staff, you will work across the organization to provide a friction-less experience to our customers and maintain the highest standards of protection and availability. You will be responsible for envisioning, designing, and delivering platform capabilities that enrich our tech ecosystem, influencing and building vision with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams to solve complex problems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Provide leadership to the engineering teams, focusing on multiple areas and owning complete solutions across their entire life cycle.
  • Platform Development: Envision, design, and deliver platform capabilities that enrich our tech ecosystem for a broad variety of teams.
  • Collaboration: Influence and build vision with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams to solve complex problems for building enterprise-class business applications.
  • Quality and Performance: Accountable for the quality, usability, and performance of the solutions, leading in design sessions and code reviews to elevate the quality of engineering across the organization.
  • Mentorship: Mentor more junior team members professionally to help them realize their full potential, consistently sharing best practices and improving processes within and across teams.

Essential Qualifications

  • Technical Expertise: Fluency and specialization with at least two modern languages, such as Java, .NET, Go, or Rust, including object-oriented design.
  • Microservices Architecture: Experience in building products using microservices architecture and extensible GraphQL and gRPC APIs.
  • Cloud Computing: Experience with commercial cloud environments, such as Azure, AWS, or GCP, and fluency in DevOps concepts, cloud architecture, and Azure DevOps operational framework.
  • Security: Understanding of security protocols and products, including Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, OAuth, and experience with application monitoring tools and performance assessments.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving ability and the capacity to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Experience: 6+ years of professional software development experience within a Java, .NET, or Go framework, with 4+ years of experience in open-source frameworks and 6+ years of experience with architecture and design.
  • Education: BS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • CS Fundamentals: In-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithms.
  • Developer Tooling: Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle, including task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, and real-time communication.
