About the Reading Partners Program

Reading Partners is a national education nonprofit organization that works with Title I elementary schools to provide kindergarten to fourth-grade students with the individualized reading support they need to read at grade level by fourth grade. Our program is data-driven and evidence-based, with regular assessments and rigorous studies demonstrating the effectiveness of our curriculum in improving students' reading skills. As a Literacy Tutor with Reading Partners, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young learners and help them achieve their full potential.

Job Responsibilities

  • Tutoring virtually using our Reading Partners Connects Platform, working one-on-one with an elementary school student(s) to provide personalized reading support
  • Preparing for lessons using the materials provided and following Reading Partners' structured, digital curriculum
  • Establishing meaningful relationships with students and supporting their Social Emotional Learning (SEL) development while tutoring and mentoring them in the area of literacy
  • Committing to 5-20 hours per week, with flexible scheduling available Monday through Thursday during the school day (8am-3pm)
  • Supporting Reading Partners' social media content creation and helping to promote our program and services

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must:

  • Be currently enrolled in classes as part of a SNHU degree program
  • Have work study as part of your financial aid package (students with work study may be prioritized)
  • Complete a free mandatory background check with the Department of Education
  • Be responsive and centered on the students' learning needs, with a commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment
  • Demonstrate a willingness to listen to and learn from students, avoiding assumptions and using affirming language to validate their feelings and experiences
  • Exercise patience and remain open and engaged when interacting with diverse texts and Reading Partners' social emotional learning curriculum
  • Commit to your student(s) and tutoring schedule, with a strong emphasis on reliability and punctuality

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Previous experience working with children or in education, particularly in a tutoring or mentoring role
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and colleagues
  • Familiarity with digital learning platforms and technology, with the ability to adapt to new systems and tools
  • A strong passion for education and a commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of young learners
