Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Director of Travel Operations to lead our Customer Technology Platforms portfolio and enterprise Complex Event Processing. As a Director of Travel Operations, you will provide leadership, strategic vision, and technology execution for DevOps within our Customer Technology Platforms portfolio. You will be responsible for the development lifecycle of applications/systems as well as the day-to-day operations and engineering of Customer Technology Platforms infrastructure both in cloud and on-premise.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Owns planning, execution, and resourcing of the Customer Technology Platforms portfolio and enterprise Complex Event Processing.
- Solution Architecture: Builds strategy and roadmaps in conjunction with customer feedback and business partner objectives to meet United's customer goals.
- Project Management: Partners and collaborates across business units, and with key business and technology customers in the delivery of critical technology initiatives to meet our business goals.
- Risk Management: Proactively identifies and mitigates risks to the corporation from reliability, security & regulatory risks that impact the customer platforms.
- Team Leadership: Develops, empowers, and leads a hard-working team of engineers, technical guides, and leaders.
- Delivery and Support: Accountable for gaining and maintaining alignment of delivery success criteria with business partners, effective project management, and delivery of work requests and projects within committed budget, schedule, and quality.
- IT Process Management and Administrative: Accountable for administrative management of 20-50 IT professionals, budget and cost management for the projects/programs, and ensuring the development process subject areas and standards are established, reliably led, and performed.
- Organizational Effectiveness / People: Provide leadership by establishing department and individual goals, responsible for developing and maintaining an overall sourcing plan, assessing and recommending improvements to the organization structure, roles, and responsibilities.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Business Administration. Master's degree a plus.
- 10-15 years of management experience in an IT or leadership-related role.
- Strong project organization skills, including prioritization, planning, and organization.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.
- Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of the airline retail and commercial strategies and emerging technology highly preferred.
- Domain authority of multiple business areas to guide a team of technical consultants and build multi-functional viewpoints on a subject matter.
- Experience with Amazon Web Services cloud-based applications and services.

Work Environment:
This is a hybrid role within person time focused at our Chicago and Houston offices. Ability to travel 10% to 20% is required.
