Job Summary

We're seeking an experienced Senior Trial Attorney to join our Litigation Services team in Los Angeles, CA. As a Senior Trial Attorney, you will be responsible for managing insurance defense and tort litigation cases, representing insured and the company in various legal proceedings, and providing counsel to business clients. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a talented team of attorneys and contribute to the success of our organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Case Management: Review new file assignments, approve initial pleadings, propound discovery, and develop strategy for each case.
  • Client Communication: Contact clients to discuss their case, answer questions, and maintain regular contact (minimum of 90 days).
  • Evidence Review: Review all documentary evidence, prepare witnesses and clients for depositions, arbitrations, mediations, and trials.
  • Court Appearances: Conduct depositions, examinations under oath, and court appearances (matter management conferences, hearings, status conferences, etc.).
  • Settlement and Dispositive Proceedings: Conduct settlement/dispositive proceedings (e.g., mediations, arbitrations, etc.).
  • Trials and Arbitrations: Try and/or arbitrate cases, prepare motions in limine, and summary documents.
  • Post-Trial Motions: Draft post-trial motions and provide legal opinions to claims clients.
  • Subrogation Litigation: Investigate and pursue subrogation litigation as appropriate.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues, paralegals, and administrative assistants to achieve case goals.

Essential Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate: A valid Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
  • California Bar Membership: Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California.
  • Experience: At least three years of experience in litigation and/or subrogation.
  • 1st or 2nd Chair Jury Trial Experience: Experience as 1st or 2nd chair in jury trials is highly preferred.
  • Insurance Defense Experience: Prior experience in insurance defense is preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  • Computer Proficiency: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, LexisNexis (preferred), and internet research.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively with attorneys, paralegals, and administrative assistants.
  • Case Management: Strong organizational and case management skills to handle a large case inventory.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Physical Demands: Periodically lifting in excess of 20 pounds, bending, turning, and twisting at work.
  • Travel: Ability to travel within the Los Angeles and Los Angeles County area.
  • Remote Work: Ability to work in a remote work environment.

Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $80,500 - $140,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications. This role is also bonus eligible. Our comprehensive benefits package includes:
