Job Overview and Responsibilities

As a part-time ELA tutor, you'll work with a 4th grader who struggles with English Language Arts, particularly with organizing thoughts, writing, and reading comprehension. Your primary goal will be to help this student build confidence and skills in ELA, while also providing homework and test prep support. Here are some key responsibilities:

  • Get to know the student and develop creative ways to teach and engage them in ELA lessons.
  • Empathize with the student and provide guidance on organizing their thoughts and expressing themselves in writing.
  • Encourage the student to improve their reading, writing, and reading comprehension skills.
  • Use our Tutor Doctor Platform to plan and create lesson plans, as well as post-session reports for our office and families within 24 hours of each tutoring session.
  • Effectively balance tutoring hours for the assigned student and manage your schedule professionally.
  • Service existing clients' concerns, questions, and requests in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Follow up with our office when a student's enrollment package is low on hours.

Requirements and Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you'll need to meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of experience in the education field and industry.
  • At least 2 years of experience in tutoring or teaching in specialized education fields.
  • Credentialed tutors and/or graduate degrees are highly preferred.
  • Experience with basic database/data entry and lesson planning.
  • Strong administration, typing, PC, and recording skills.
  • Reliable transportation with current car insurance.
  • Access to the internet, a computer, and a smartphone.

Nice to Have

While not required, the following qualifications and experience are highly desirable:

  • Experience working with students who have similar needs and challenges.
  • Familiarity with educational software and technology.
  • Ability to pick up the student at school and drive to the tutoring location (if needed).

About the Student

The student is a 9-year-old 4th grader who enjoys video games, football, and soccer. They struggle with ELA and become nervous when organizing thoughts, writing, and comprehending reading. However, they are friendly, dedicated, and eager to learn.
