Job Summary

As a Peer Writing Consultant at the Virtual Writing Center, you will be responsible for providing written feedback on writing submissions from students. You will work independently, using your strong writing and communication skills to support students in developing their writing abilities. This is a part-time, remote opportunity that requires a strong self-directed work ethic and excellent time management skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and respond to student writing submissions in a timely manner, providing feedback on alignment with the assignment, higher-order concerns, and lower-order concerns.
  • Monitor the virtual queue for writing submissions and live session requests, prioritizing the oldest submissions.
  • Provide feedback in written responses and embedded comments in papers, using a hierarchy of needs to guide your work.
  • Confer with the VWC Director regularly to discuss your work and receive feedback.
  • Attend monthly group professional development meetings and one-on-one check-in meetings to stay up-to-date on best practices and discuss your progress.
  • Read and review related resources, such as articles and books on writing center theory and practices.
  • Engage in collaboration with other consultants, sharing your expertise and learning from others.
  • Participate in ancillary work related to resource development and writing, such as contributing to the VWC newsletter or working on special projects.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an Antioch Master's or Doctoral program with an available Federal Work-Study award.
  • Strong proficiency in writing and facility with online communication.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills, with a passion for supporting other students' growth as writers.
  • Strong self-directed work ethic and ability to regularly schedule and fulfill VWC responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior tutoring experience, academic consultation, or peer support work.
  • Strong presentation and resume-writing skills.
  • Experience with writing center theory and practices.
