Job Summary

We are seeking an exceptional Special Education Teacher to lead our Meadowood Program. As a Special Education Teacher, you will be responsible for developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) that address the unique needs of our students. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including speech, occupational, and physical therapists, to ensure a comprehensive approach to education. Your goal will be to create a nurturing and engaging learning environment that promotes academic achievement, social skills, and emotional growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement instructional programs that incorporate students' individualized education plans (IEPs) and adapt materials from general education classrooms.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs to ensure students' progress and academic achievement.
  • Effectively implement behavioral intervention strategies to promote positive behavior and manage classroom dynamics.
  • Collaborate with speech, occupational, and physical therapists to provide a comprehensive education program.
  • Manage and supervise paraprofessional staff assigned to the classroom.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues through oral and written communication.
  • Administer alternate assessments to evaluate student progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Participate in physical education activities, including swimming, and assist with personal hygiene routines, lifting, positioning, feeding, and diapering as needed.
  • Implement approved de-escalation and restraint techniques to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment.

Qualifications and Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Certification in Special Education and highly qualified in General Elementary.
  • Valid teaching certification in Delaware, such as:
    • Delaware Advanced License
    • Delaware Continuing License
    • Delaware Initial License
    • Out-of-state teaching license with equivalent qualifications.
  • Required Endorsements:
    • DEEL Elementary Teacher
    • DEEXSE Exceptional Children Special Education Teacher
    • Teacher of Students with Autism or Severe Disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with students with intellectual disabilities and autism.
  • Knowledge of behavioral intervention strategies and de-escalation techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
