Job Overview

As a Packaging Strategy Lead - Data Expert, you will play a critical role in driving the development of packaging strategies for Target's owned brands, exclusive brands, and travel packaging. Your expertise will help shape the company's approach to packaging design, optimization, and sustainability, ultimately influencing sales and brand loyalty. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including procurement, design, store operations, marketing, supply chain, and compliance, to establish data-driven packaging standards and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain data requirements and taxonomy structures to support packaging design optimization and sustainability efforts across owned brand organizations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to establish relevant data requirements and flexible guidelines that reflect Target's commitment to safety, reliability, cost-effectiveness, and performance.
  • Create and manage change processes to ensure accurate packaging document management portfolios across multiple systems and partner teams.
  • Develop and execute training programs to drive understanding of packaging standards, specifications, and data accuracy best practices among internal and external audiences.
  • Analyze data requirements and specifications to advance safe, reliable, and cost-effective packaging solutions that align with industry standards and enhance product engineering practices.
  • Provide support and guidance to cross-functional teams and colleagues to ensure proper interpretation and implementation of packaging data requirements, standards, and specifications.
  • Engage with internal regulatory and compliance experts to identify potential impacts on current data requirements and standards, mitigating risks and identifying opportunities for compliance.
  • Work with global partners to drive effective communication and roadshows around stated packaging goals, compliance, and data accuracy best practice requirements and expectations.
  • Utilize data to identify trends or issues in partnership with technology teams to measure the effectiveness of training delivered and communications sent.
  • Research industry trends and assess Target's corresponding data and standards practices, sharing insights and recommendations with the appropriate audience for change and compliance.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to others, driving effectiveness and efficiency in team results.
  • Foster a positive team culture by exhibiting behaviors consistent with Target's values of Inclusivity, Connection, and Drive, ensuring ongoing, effective communications to the team, and supporting individualized development through regular performance feedback, coaching, recognition, and evaluation.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • 4+ years of experience creating and managing documentation and standards projects, preferably in packaging design and development.
  • Ability to influence without authority, manage projects, work with groups, resolve conflict, build consensus, establish rapport, and collaborate effectively, both internally and externally, across all levels of an organization.
  • Experience with documentation best practices, technical writing, and reporting.
  • Skilled at creating and advising on content, structure, and delivery of effective training programs, roadshows, and communications.
  • Experience leading teams or projects, driving collaboration, empowerment, and teamwork.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, creative thinking, and analytical skills.
  • Related knowledge of packaging or consumer products manufacturing is preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Adaptability and resilience; comfortable working in uncertain and constantly changing environments.
  • Ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel), Visio applications.
