Job Overview

The Retail Pharmacy Research team maintains industry-leading analytical solutions to enable a roadmap that drives technology development and innovation, while delivering high-quality and high-value solutions. As the Lead Director of Data Science and Patient Safety Analytics, you will report to the Senior Vice President - Patient Safety and Pharmacy Operations Analytics. You will leverage your technical and product management expertise to drive our AI innovation and disrupt the way CVS Pharmacy fills prescriptions. You will lead scientific solutions and processes designed to support the dispensing of controlled substances across 9,700+ pharmacy locations. An ideal candidate in this role will be expected to lead, train, and develop a team of data scientists who will be responsible for maintaining current processes as well as fostering innovative solutions to drive continuous quality improvement within our retail specialty units. Prevention of patient safety events through systematically determined solutions powered by AI/ML will be the foundation of this team's mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead initiatives to improve patient safety and promote professional practice solutions using both traditional and AI/ML approaches
  • Leverage technology depth to engage with key leaders across the enterprise to identify new applications of AI in patient safety topics
  • Input business requirements from various stakeholders, lead analysis of vast amounts of data, and subsequently coordinate strategies and tactics to solve complex problems
  • Direct or facilitate proper testing of analytical solutions, including AI and machine learning, to ensure results are consistent with business requirements
  • Create and present meaningful and insights-driven materials on analytical outcomes with recommendations and proceed to direct various audiences, including internal stakeholders and senior leadership
  • Develop and mentor data scientists, contribute to their learning and training plan, knowledge sharing, and provide feedback on technology stack

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • 6+ years of experience leading and inspiring high-performing teams, providing timely and periodic feedback to direct reports, and holding them accountable for achieving quality results
  • Ability to think strategically, including defining objectives, analyzing key components, managing financial implications, assessing risk, and developing a strategy to achieve success
  • 8+ years of experience in the Product Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and agile development, including providing business requirements focused on data and analytics
  • Strong leadership skills, strategic mindset, and experience leading highly technical teams focused on delivering data and analytics solutions in healthcare
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to work on multiple tasks in parallel, and consistently prioritize key objectives
  • Ability to engage with senior business stakeholders, execute level communication, and influencing skills
  • Deep experience with data modeling/analysis using SQL, Python, Tableau, and/or other advanced analytical tools
  • Highly motivated individual to work in a fast-paced environment, both independently and with a team

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Strong analytical and data skills, including solid training in statistics and data analysis, understanding of data management and visualization, ability to interpret results of AI models
  • Related experience using and managing programs using Cloud (Azure, GCP, etc.) technologies
  • Advanced programming skills in Python, R, TensorFlow, or other data science environments; strong data management and reporting skills, understanding of deploying AI models in real-time production environments, including cloud (Azure, AWS), Flash-based systems, etc.
  • Excellent project management skills, ability to lead and participate in multiple projects and initiatives, and properly prioritize her/his own experience as well as that of direct reports, and adjust needs as necessary to meet deadlines
  • Highest level of attention to detail while working within legal and compliance guidelines, primarily around HIPAA, patient safety work product, and attorney/client privilege while working with sensitive, confidential, and protected information

A Bachelor's degree is required, and a Master's degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Science, or a related STEM field is also desirable. Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $70-$80 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. In addition to your salary, you will be eligible for a range of benefits, including:
