About the Role

As an Early Learning Enrichment Instructor with the YMCA, you will be responsible for planning, facilitating, and evaluating specialty programs that cater to the diverse needs and interests of young children. This is a mobile position, requiring you to work at various YMCA centers in and around Chicagoland and surrounding suburbs. You will have the flexibility to work on a variety of programs, including 1-day classes, 6-week programs, monthly programs, and continuous year-round programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Youth-Facing Program Facilitation (60%): Deliver high-quality STEAM programs that engage and inspire young children, promoting hands-on active learning and critical thinking.
  • Program Training, Planning, and Preparation (25%): Plan and prepare programs in accordance with YMCA goals and policies, modifying activities as needed to ensure cultural relevance and developmental appropriateness.
  • Program Clean-up, Material Organizing, and Inventory (15%): Maintain program equipment, notify supervisors of equipment issues, and transport equipment as needed between sites.
  • Collaborate with other instructors to run Early Learning Enrichment programs.
  • Create daily and weekly reports on program progress for supervisors and YMCA leadership.
  • Foster positive interactions with youth, parents, and staff, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to child abuse prevention, youth safety, and emergency procedures.
  • Provide assistance to supervisors and fill-in during temporary absences as needed.

Essential and Preferred Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • To be at least 16 years of age.
  • Prior experience working with youth, preferably in an educational or recreational setting.
  • The ability to carry 50+ lbs and transport program equipment as needed.
  • Previous experience facilitating youth programs, with a focus on STEAM activities.
  • A commitment to, and passion for, the YMCA's mission and values.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present ideas and concepts to diverse audiences.
  • A passion for working with diverse youth and providing high-quality instruction using age-appropriate practices.
  • The ability to observe student behavior and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
