About the Department of English
The Department of English at California State University, East Bay is dedicated to providing a comprehensive education in English language and literature to a diverse student body. With a faculty comprising 11 tenured and tenure-track members and 16 part-time lecturers, the department offers a robust B.A. in English, with specializations in British and American Literature, English Language and Literacies, and Creative Writing. A significant part of our mission is the teaching of writing across various levels, including developmental, freshman, advanced, and online writing courses.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach a variety of courses in college writing, including stretch college writing (ENGL 100, 101, 103, 104) and college writing (ENGL 102, 200).
- Instruct other writing courses, as well as introductory and advanced literature, creative writing, and language and applied linguistics courses, as needed.
- Teach courses at the Hayward, Concord, and Online campuses, adhering to the California State University's policy that all faculty duties are performed within the state of California.
- Develop and deliver engaging curriculum that meets the department's educational goals.
- Assess student performance and provide constructive feedback.
- Participate in departmental activities and contribute to the overall mission of the Department of English.
Qualifications and Requirements
Essential Qualifications:
- M.A. in English or TESOL.
- Relevant teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or other appropriate terminal degree in English or a related field.
- Experience in teaching a diverse range of courses, including composition and literature.
- Demonstrated ability to teach and mentor students from diverse backgrounds.

Compensation and Benefits:
The salary for this part-time lecturer position is competitive and dependent on educational preparation and experience. The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range. Salary Ranges: - Lecturer AY (Range 2): $4,530 - $6,056 per month - Lecturer AY (Range 3): $5,405 - $11,994 per month - Lecturer AY (Range 4): $6,190 - $13,172 per month - Lecturer AY (Range 5): $7,794 - $13,797 per month
