Key Responsibilities
- Creating Engaging Learning Experiences: Prepare for each instructional session by gathering and preparing materials as needed, and initiate instruction to personally engage each student.
- Instructing Students: Teach students according to the design of Sylvan programs, managing students, tasks, and time to create a balanced and robust instructional session.
- Evaluating Student Progress: Assess and record the progress of each student on their program assignment, using praise and encouragement to ensure students remain engaged and motivated.
- Motivating Students: Use Sylvan tokens to motivate students for specific achievements, according to Sylvan instructional management standards, and record and track tokens earned.
- Communicating with Center Staff: Communicate specific student needs to Center staff, attend periodic staff meetings, and complete ongoing training as needed.
- Maintaining a Safe and Supportive Environment: Support procedures to ensure student safety and well-being, and manage the conclusion of each instructional session, including learning log and transition activities.
Essential and Preferred Qualifications
Language Arts and Study Skills Program Teachers:
- Education: Four-year degree or equivalent required.
- Teaching Credentials: State or provincial teaching credentials (current or expired) required.
- Experience: Minimum of one or two years of teaching experience preferred.
- Knowledge: Phonics and reading comprehension knowledge preferred for reading teachers.
Math Program Teachers:
- Education: Four-year degree required in a discipline requiring 3 or more years of college-level math.
SAT/ACT, Test Prep, and Advanced Reading Skills Teachers:
- Education: Four-year degree or equivalent preferred.
Additional Requirements:
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of general office equipment such as copiers, printers, and office phones. Knowledge of tablet computers preferred.

- Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, parents, and center staff.

- Problem-Solving and Customer Service: Strong problem-solving and customer service skills to address student needs and concerns.
- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively as a team player to achieve center goals and objectives.
