About the Role
As a Resource Instructional Assistant (Grades 1-5) at Hawthorn School District 73, you will be working closely with teachers to implement strategies that cater to the diverse needs of students. Your primary goal will be to reinforce learning skills and content, ensuring that students receive the support they need to succeed.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in achieving teaching and learning objectives by working with individual students or small groups.
- Implement strategies for reinforcing skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students' needs, interests, and abilities.
- Work with students to reinforce learning skills or content initially introduced by the teacher, promoting a deeper understanding of the subject matter.
- Assist with classroom management and supervision to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
- Communicate effectively with teachers regarding student progress, problems, or special needs.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold the same high level of ethical behavior expected of teachers.
- Participate in training programs and other activities as assigned by the Principal or teachers.
- Assist with supervision of students and other duties in the school as needed.
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a Paraprofessional (Short-Term License), Professional Educator, or Substitute Teaching License from the Illinois State Board of Education.
- Meet one of the following criteria:
- Completion of 60 semester hours of college credit.
- Completion of a paraprofessional training program approved by ISBE or ICCB.
- Passage of the ETS Parapro Assessment.
- Passage of the applicable ACT WorkKeys assessments.
- Experience working with students in a learning center atmosphere is preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively with children and parents.
- Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively with adults.
Preferred Qualifications
While not mandatory, the following qualifications will be considered advantageous:
- Illinois elementary teaching certificate.
- Ability to speak a foreign language, particularly Spanish.
