As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in defining, developing, testing, analyzing, and maintaining code for data and data applications. You'll collaborate with customers, stakeholders, developers, and other team members to create solutions that drive business impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, developers, and other team members in the conceptualization and development of new or existing data applications.
  • Define, develop, and document data objectives, deliverables, and specifications in collaboration with internal users and departments.
  • Research, identify, analyze, and fulfill requirements of all internal and external users and stakeholders.
  • Identify the need for and create software to enhance functionality and/or performance of applications.
  • Execute testing on new and existing programs for the purposes of correcting errors and general debugging.
  • Participate in and may lead the definition of data development plans, including scoping, scheduling, and implementation.
  • Perform and may lead program deployment upon completion of development, testing, and documentation.
  • Conduct code reviews based on team-defined best practices.
  • Help mentor data engineer peers for technical excellence.
  • Provide and may lead support for bugs, issues, and escalated incident tickets from end-users to resolve application and software issues.
  • Partner with other Engineers in resolving problems with software products or company data systems.
  • Ensure data and data applications perform optimally in production through active monitoring.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of programming experience required, ideally in data, data applications, or data science; should have prior experience within various platforms and languages.
  • Excellent understanding of data engineering, design, and industry best practices.
  • Ability to conduct research into data-related issues and products.
  • Ability to develop and maintain different data platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with product planning business cases and return on investment concepts.
  • Experience working in an office environment, either in a Patterson facility or at home/remote location.
  • Periodic travel to corporate sites is required (Quarterly or so).
  • Periodic on-call rotations and availability outside of normal business hours on evenings and weekends during critical production release or issue escalation periods.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, or C++.
  • Experience with data engineering tools and technologies, such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, or AWS.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple projects.
