Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Controller to oversee our financial and accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with regulatory standards. As a key member of our collaborative team, you will be responsible for managing financial activities related to online sales, digital marketing expenses, and logistics costs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in high-growth private equity environments, experience leading finance teams through transitions, and a proven track record of recommending control, policies, and process improvements to company leadership.

Key Responsibilities

As our Controller, you will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing the preparation and timely filing of all financial statements, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, ensuring compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
  • Maintaining our financial systems, including NetSuite, to support accounting and reporting needs, and providing training and support to finance team members on system usage and best practices.
  • Managing and mentoring our accounting team, fostering a collaborative environment that attracts, retains, and develops top talent, and ensuring staff understand their roles and responsibilities and achieve their potential.
  • Working with department heads to enhance internal controls, understand business needs, and support operations.
  • Providing leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization, creating and promoting a positive and supportive work environment.
  • Coordinating the provision of information to external auditors for various annual audits.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting and financial experience, with a strong knowledge of GAAP and e-commerce-specific financial practices.
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems, with experience in e-commerce platforms (e.g., Shopify, Magento).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • eCommerce start-up experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • A naturally inquisitive and deeply analytical mindset, with a fundamental understanding of financial statements and the ability to retrieve and analyze information from various financial and operational systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and precision.
