Job Overview and Key Responsibilities

  • Responding to customer inquiries via phone, email, or chat, and providing timely and accurate solutions to their problems
  • Manually educating callers on their prescription benefits, plan usage, formulary, and claims or inquiries, and identifying issues and communicating solutions to clients, pharmacies, and doctors
  • Asking relevant questions, listening attentively, and recording necessary information in computer systems
  • Making outgoing calls to customers regarding prescription orders and payment issues
  • Utilizing multiple databases to research complex problems related to member prescriptions and pharmacy benefits, and navigating computer systems with confidence and compassion

Essential Qualifications and Skills

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications and skills:

  • High School Diploma or GED (or higher), or equivalent work experience
  • 1+ years of customer service experience, including delivering service over the phone
  • Familiarity with computer and Microsoft Windows PC applications, including the ability to navigate and learn new and complex computer system functions
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Word (ability to open and navigate a word document) and Microsoft Excel (ability to open and navigate a spreadsheet)
  • Ability to work some of our 8-hour shift schedules during our regular service hours of Sunday - Saturday, 5:00 am - 11:00 pm local time

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

While not required, the following preferred qualifications and experience will be considered an asset:

  • Contact Center experience
  • Customer service experience in a healthcare or insurance setting
  • Familiarity with adult learning in an online environment
  • Experience working with digital platforms and systems, including web, chat, and email
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, health insurance documents, or benefit planning concepts
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, community service, behavioral health, disease prevention, health promotion, and behavior change

Telecommuting Requirements

As a remote worker, you will need to meet the following telecommuting requirements:

  • A dedicated home office setup that is separate from other living areas and provides privacy
  • Ability to keep all company-sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Residence in an area that can receive a UnitedHealth Group-approved high-speed internet connection or utilize an existing fast internet service
  • Ability to connect directly to the internet using a hardwire (either directly to the cable box or router)
