About the Role

The Director of Semiconductor Engineering and Fabrication is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing the development, manufacturing, and transfer of high-performance III-V semiconductor components to external partners. This role requires a deep technical understanding of optics, materials science, and electronics, as well as exceptional leadership and management skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategies for III-V semiconductor device and manufacturing process development, ensuring timely, in-spec, and on-budget delivery
  • Manage relationships with external vendor partners, including technology transfer, risk management, and escalation management
  • Oversee the transfer of novel technologies to external partners for mass production, ensuring successful process bringup and integration
  • Lead technical reviews with internal and external stakeholders, driving collaboration and innovation
  • Maintain high-quality standards in the fab, ensuring compliance with consumer electronics quality requirements
  • Assemble and manage task forces to address critical issues, driving root cause analysis and problem-solving
  • Mentor and foster a large team, promoting an inclusive and successful environment
  • Report to Steering Boards and Executive leadership, providing strategic guidance and updates
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, driving results and managing ambiguity and uncertainty

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • 10+ years of experience in semiconductor process engineering, semiconductor product development, and mass production
  • Experience with modern high-volume semiconductor fabrication processes, including lithography, etch, implant, oxidation, thin films, wafer acceptance testing, and high-volume test solutions
  • Significant experience in III-V semiconductors, with a deep understanding of their applications and challenges
  • Expertise in problem-solving methods and root cause analysis, with the ability to moderate complex problem-solving discussions
  • Experience in leading large cross-functional teams, driving results, and managing ambiguity and uncertainty
  • A record of owning and driving complex projects in cross-functional working environments to completion
  • Familiarity with ISO standards and systems, FMEA, and Phase Gate approach
  • Experience in vendor transfer management or wafer foundry management
  • Excellent project management skills, with Program/Project Management experience preferred
  • Strong skills in collaboration, organization, and communication

Preferred Qualifications

To stand out as a candidate, you'll ideally have:

  • Experience in data analysis tools and methods, with the ability to drive data-driven decision-making
  • Experience in transferring technologies from development status into mass production maturity

Education & Experience

A BS degree and a minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience are required for this role.

What We Offer

At Apple, we believe in rewarding talent and providing a comprehensive compensation package. The base pay range for this role is between $284,900 and $455,200, depending on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
