About the Company and Role

Workwarp is partnering with Disney to hire a Principal Software Engineer for the Content and Experience Delivery (CXD) team, which is responsible for building systems that provide data at scale to viewers across Hulu, Disney+, ESPN+, and Star+ (DSS). The CXD team is the nexus of many content data spaces inside Disney Streaming, and as a Principal Software Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing frameworks that improve how the company assembles and serves data at scale to all Disney Streaming viewers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Meet with engineering and product teams to understand their goals and objectives
  • Collaborate and conceptualize with other engineering leaders to design frameworks that meet the goals of Disney Streaming
  • Model solutions that validate your ideas and provide feedback on your thoughts through detailed RFCs
  • Lead engineering teams through execution on the side of your designs
  • Work with engineering teams to help them identify solutions to the problems they are addressing
  • Define and change operational models to help highly available and performant frameworks

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • 3+ years of related experience creating large-scale, highly available Java services using various database and messaging technologies
  • A wide perspective on problem-solving and the ability to advocate cross-group projects
  • A capacity to mentor and guide other professionals in the team to ensure that all product uses DSS and industry best practices for scalable, issue-tolerant framework design
  • Experience working collaboratively with product management, technical program management, operations, and other engineering teams to capture requirements, drive execution, and provide transparency
  • Solid programming skills in Java and other object-oriented languages, and a strong handle of computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, databases, etc.)
  • Experience designing and building multi-system, cross-group event-driven frameworks structures (reactive design)
  • Deep experience building and managing services on AWS
  • Four-year certification in Software Engineering, Data Systems, Programming, Electrical or Hardware Engineering, or equivalent field of study, or equivalent work experience

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Cloud-native framework design
  • Experience deploying and scaling inside a cloud framework
  • Deep involvement in reactive programming on JVM languages, ideally Java
  • Deep experience as a service manager with experience creating and managing discernibility frameworks
  • Experience with streaming platforms like Kafka, Kinesis, or Flink
  • Hands-on experience managing AWS services with explicit experience utilizing Terraform or other IAC tools
  • Hands-on experience building on and managing distributed NoSQL data stores like DynamoDB, Cassandra, Scylla, and Couchbase
  • Experience working with remote global teams and an adaptable schedule across different time regions
