Job Summary
The Academic Coordinator will provide critical support for projects and tasks involving course content modifications, accessibility requirements, and related instructional design activities. This hybrid/flexible role offers the opportunity to work independently and as part of a collaborative team, driving success in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and The Institute for Molecular Medicine and Infectious Disease.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with implementing newly created and existing course materials for face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses, ensuring alignment with best practices and recognized rubrics.
- Analyze and update existing online content, preparing and updating Blackboard Learn course shells each semester.
- Create written instructions or video tutorials to support teaching tasks, promoting effective online instruction and accessibility initiatives.
- Support the maintenance of the Microbiology and Immunology Student Center, ensuring a seamless learning experience for students.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to teamwork.
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in instructional design, education, or a related field, or a minimum of one year of experience in a related field.
- Experience as an educator, such as a teacher, teaching assistant, tutor, or other type of instructor.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to perform work under tight deadlines.
- Characteristics needed to work independently, such as resourcefulness, initiative, time management, problem-solving, and dependability, while functioning as part of the team.
Preferred Qualifications
To enhance your application, you will ideally have:
- Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Blackboard, Canvas, or Moodle.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and related applications, with experience in course authoring tools such as Camtasia and Articulate.
- Multimedia experience, including desktop video, screencasts, and infographics.
- Knowledge of synchronous meeting applications such as Zoom, Webex, or Collaborate.
- Web design and graphics skills set, with the ability to create engaging and accessible content.
