Job Summary

We are actively seeking applications for adjunct positions in the Department of English, Communication, and Languages. This is a part-time faculty position that may involve teaching at any of our campus locations, including our La Plata campus. The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching and committed to student success, with a strong background in English, Spanish, French, ESL, or related fields.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses in English, Communication, and Languages, including English Composition, Languages and Culture, and Reading.
  • Plan, organize, and instruct courses in a manner that promotes student-centered learning.
  • Hold office hours, participate in professional development opportunities, and perform other duties as assigned by the Division Chair or other college officials.
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans, assess student learning, and maintain accurate records.
  • Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and college staff, and respond to student concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Participate in program and curriculum review, development, and assessment initiatives.
  • Stay current with trends and best practices in teaching and learning, and incorporate new technologies and approaches into instruction.

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • A Master's degree in the discipline of instruction (English, Spanish, French, etc.) or a related field.
  • At least 15 graduate credits in the discipline, or sufficient experience in lieu of either requirement, as approved by the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the subject matter and a passion for teaching and student learning.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work with a diverse student population and respond to their needs using a variety of teaching methods.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Experience teaching in a community college or similar setting.
  • Familiarity with online and hybrid teaching methods.
  • Involvement in professional development activities and staying current with trends in teaching and learning.
  • A commitment to ongoing assessment and improvement of student learning outcomes.
