Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly qualified Foreign Language Teacher - French to join our team at the DLIFLC. As a French language teacher, you will be responsible for teaching listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills, as well as geopolitical, economic, and social issues, in an immersion-based environment. You will employ computer skills to organize data and teaching materials, integrate technology in the classroom and in homework assignments, and stay abreast of current foreign language teaching theories and methods.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach French language courses to undergraduate students, including listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills
- Develop and implement lesson plans, course materials, and assessments to meet the needs of students
- Employ computer skills to organize data and teaching materials, including the use of Smart Boards, the Internet, iPods, and Tablet PCs
- Integrate technology in the classroom and in homework assignments to enhance student learning
- Stay current with foreign language teaching theories and methods, and apply this knowledge to improve instructional practices
- Participate in faculty development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay up-to-date with industry trends
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement curriculum, assessments, and instructional materials
- Provide feedback and support to students to help them achieve their language learning goals
Qualifications and Requirements
To be successful in this role, you must possess a strong educational background and relevant work experience in foreign language instruction. The following qualifications and requirements are essential:
Essential Qualifications
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in Foreign Language Education, Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language (TESOL/TEFL), Linguistics, Language (English included), Literature, Education, Educational Psychology, Educational Technology, Translation & Interpretation, Cross-Cultural Studies, or Educational Administration
- Must be able to speak, read, and write in French fluently
- Must be able to speak, read, and write in English fluently
- Directly related work experience in formal classroom instruction of a language foreign to students at the high school level or above
- Ability to pass a language proficiency test (OPI)
- Minimum English proficiency of a Level 2 in speaking, and minimum proficiency for the language to be taught of a Level 3 in speaking
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching French language courses at the undergraduate level
- Knowledge of current foreign language teaching theories and methods
- Experience with technology integration in the classroom, including the use of Smart Boards, the Internet, iPods, and Tablet PCs
