Job Overview
The Itinerant ESL Teacher will play a vital role in providing language services to English learners at out-of-district placement schools that cannot provide these services internally. This position requires a strong and diverse skillset, including expertise in ESL instruction, curriculum development, and cultural sensitivity. The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating learning, academic achievement, and personal development by providing instruction to students, developing and implementing curriculum and lesson plans, and utilizing technology to facilitate learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide language services to English learners at out-of-district placement schools, including instruction, assessment, and support
- Develop and implement curriculum and lesson plans that meet the needs of diverse student populations
- Utilize technology to facilitate learning and enhance student engagement
- Evaluate student performance and provide feedback to students, parents, and school administrators
- Collaborate with other teachers, staff, and community members to support student learning and achievement
- Participate in staff development and professional growth activities to stay current with best practices in ESL instruction
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of student progress and achievement
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff to ensure that all stakeholders are informed and involved in the educational process
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this exciting opportunity, candidates must possess the following essential qualifications:
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with PK-12 ESL Endorsement
- Spanish speaking preferred
- Special education teaching experience preferred
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with diverse student populations and adapt instruction to meet individual needs
- Strong knowledge of core curriculum areas, educational philosophy, and teaching methods
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following preferred qualifications will be considered an asset:
- PK-12 Bilingual Teacher-Spanish Endorsement
- Experience with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Response to Intervention (RtI)
- Knowledge of multicultural, gender, and disability fair curriculum concepts
- Experience with instructional technologies and multimedia resources
- Ability to work in a cooperative learning environment and collaborate with other teachers and staff
