Job Summary

As a Special Education Paraprofessional, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of Special Education programming to students with diverse needs. You will work closely with teachers, case managers, and other educational professionals to create a personalized learning environment that promotes student success. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting teachers in the delivery of Special Education programming, supporting students in resource rooms and general education classrooms, and providing feedback to case managers on student performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers in the delivery of Special Education programming, including lesson planning, instructional support, and progress monitoring
  • Support students in resource rooms and general education classrooms, providing individualized instruction, accommodations, and modifications as needed
  • Provide feedback to case managers on student performance, including progress reports, attendance, and behavioral observations
  • Attend meetings and training sessions as requested, including Individual Educational Plan (IEP) meetings, staff meetings, and professional development workshops
  • Monitor students' work, providing guidance, support, and encouragement to promote academic achievement and social growth
  • Proctor assessments, administer tests, and score student work as requested by teachers or case managers
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the position, adhering to district policies and procedures regarding student records and confidentiality
  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned, including supporting district-wide behavioral expectations, attending CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training, and maintaining CPI certification

Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess a strong educational foundation, excellent communication skills, and a passion for working with students with diverse needs. The following qualifications and requirements are essential:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; a 2-year or 4-year degree in a related field (e.g., education, psychology, special education) is preferred
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and other educational professionals
  • A cooperative working style, with a strong commitment to teamwork, collaboration, and problem-solving
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, adhere to district policies and procedures, and demonstrate a high level of professionalism and integrity
  • Strong observational, recording, and reporting skills, with the ability to provide accurate and detailed feedback to case managers and teachers
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a strong focus on flexibility, adaptability, and creativity

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications and skills are highly desirable:

  • Experience working in a special education setting, including experience with students with diverse needs (e.g., autism, emotional behavioral disorders, learning disabilities)
  • Knowledge of special education laws, policies, and procedures, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
  • Training or certification in CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention), first aid, or other related areas
  • Fluency in a second language, with the ability to communicate effectively with students and families from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds
  • Experience with assistive technology, including text-to-speech software, speech-generating devices, and other adaptive equipment
