As a Science Tutor, you will have the opportunity to work with students in grades 6-12, providing personalized instruction and guidance in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics subjects.
About the Role
The In-Person Science Tutor position is a part-time opportunity that offers a flexible schedule and an above-average pay rate. As a tutor, you will be responsible for providing in-person tutoring sessions to students in our learning center, online, or at local schools. Tutoring sessions are 90 minutes long, and you can expect to work 6-12 hours per week. We provide materials for our tutors, but you are also welcome to use your own supplemental materials to enhance the learning experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide in-person Science tutoring to students in grades 6-12 in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics subjects
- Conduct tutoring sessions in our learning center, online, or at local schools
- Develop and implement personalized lesson plans to meet the unique needs of each student
- Use a variety of teaching methods and materials to engage students and promote learning
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to ensure a collaborative and supportive learning environment
- Stay up-to-date with developments in Science education and incorporate new ideas and methods into your teaching practice
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you should have:
- An earned Bachelor's degree or be a Junior Year student at a local university with at least one year of tutoring experience
- The ability to teach one or more of the following subjects for grades 6-12: Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or the Advanced Placement counterpart to those subjects
- At least 6-12 hours of availability per week
- A strong academic background and a passion for Science education
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:
- More than 2 years of experience as a teacher or tutor
- A Master's degree in a relevant field
- Experience working with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities
- Familiarity with online tutoring platforms and technology
- A certification in teaching or tutoring, such as a teaching credential or a tutoring certification
