Job Overview

Key Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze patient medical records to assign accurate codes for diagnostic and reportable procedures
- Abstract information from medical records to compile a patient database, supporting medical research projects, patient care evaluation, and administrative decision-making
- Ensure compliance with established coding guidelines, third-party reimbursement policies, regulations, and accreditation guidelines
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to promote provider-patient continuity and optimize reimbursement
- Stay up-to-date with coding systems, guidelines, and regulations to maintain expertise and ensure accurate coding
Essential Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A degree in Medical Record Sciences or successful completion of a certification program with certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Administrator (RHIA), or CCS Certified Coding Specialist
- Minimum of five (5) years of inpatient coding experience and/or two (2) years of coding experience at a level one trauma hospital
- Thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, disease processes, medical terminology, pharmacology, and coding systems
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Administrator (RHIA), or CCS Certified Coding Specialist, or eligibility for certification
