Job Overview

The Materials Engineering Department at Cal Poly invites applications for a full-time, Post-Doctoral Teaching Fellow appointment as a Full-Time Lecturer. This teaching development program is designed to attract and prepare outstanding individuals with completed PhDs for a successful career in engineering academia by gaining teaching experience and training at a premier teaching-oriented engineering institution. As a Post-Doctoral Teaching Fellow, you will primarily engage in teaching activities in fundamental or specialized materials engineering courses appropriate to your preparation. You will also be supported through mentorship by experienced engineering educators and through the University's Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach a range of materials engineering courses, including laboratory-based instruction, to undergraduate and Master's students
  • Develop and implement innovative teaching methods and materials to enhance student learning outcomes
  • Mentor and advise students on academic and research projects
  • Participate in departmental and college-wide activities, including curriculum development and accreditation
  • Engage in scholarly pursuits, including research and publication, subject to the limitations of available facilities and resources on campus
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement interdisciplinary programs and courses

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • A PhD in Materials Science and Engineering or a closely related field
  • A passion for teaching and a commitment to undergraduate education
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • A willingness to teach in multiple areas of the Materials Engineering curriculum

Preference will be given to candidates with:

The salary range for this position is $4,530-$6,056 per month, depending on experience and qualifications.
