Key Responsibilities:
- Perform manual laboring tasks, such as spreading and raking asphalt mix, loosening and digging out areas with pneumatic tools, and building wooden forms for concrete
- Operate small machines, hand and power tools, and less complex power equipment, such as slag spreaders and liquid patch spreaders
- Assist skilled workers in more complex maintenance tasks, such as herbicide and pesticide application
- Perform a variety of maintenance tasks, including emptying trash cans, painting, replacing light bulbs, unclogging drains and toilets, and repairing and installing fencing
- Drive pickup or small dump truck to transport personnel and materials to and from job sites
- Load and unload materials from trucks
- Install and repair playground and recreation equipment
- Cut grass with power mower, walk behind, or push mower, and operate weed eater for weed control
- Rake leaves, pick up debris, and perform other tasks to assist in the maintenance of parks
- Assist in planting trees and spreading mulch
- Cut back plants and brush
- Park, clean and maintain division vehicles
- Secure parking lots and decks
- Communicate with other employees and supervisors utilizing a mobile or hand-held radio
Requirements and Qualifications:
Essential Qualifications:
- Ability to read and write
- A minimum of six months of paid experience in general laboring work
- Valid State of Ohio driver's license
- May require possession of a valid State of Ohio commercial driver's license (CDL class and endorsements as required by division)
- Basic knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment used in labor operations
- Ability to use small machines, hand and power tools, and less complex power equipment
- Ability to perform a variety of manual tasks
- Ability to understand and follow oral instructions
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for long periods of time, often under adverse weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a related field, such as construction, maintenance, or environmental conservation
- Knowledge of safety procedures and protocols
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
