Key Responsibilities:

• Perform manual laboring tasks, such as spreading and raking asphalt mix, loosening and digging out areas with pneumatic tools, and building wooden forms for concrete
• Operate small machines, hand and power tools, and less complex power equipment, such as slag spreaders and liquid patch spreaders
• Assist skilled workers in more complex maintenance tasks, such as herbicide and pesticide application
• Perform a variety of maintenance tasks, including emptying trash cans, painting, replacing light bulbs, unclogging drains and toilets, and repairing and installing fencing
• Drive pickup or small dump truck to transport personnel and materials to and from job sites
• Load and unload materials from trucks
• Install and repair playground and recreation equipment
• Cut grass with power mower, walk behind, or push mower, and operate weed eater for weed control
• Rake leaves, pick up debris, and perform other tasks to assist in the maintenance of parks
• Assist in planting trees and spreading mulch
• Cut back plants and brush
• Park, clean and maintain division vehicles
• Secure parking lots and decks
• Communicate with other employees and supervisors utilizing a mobile or hand-held radio

Requirements and Qualifications:

Essential Qualifications:

• Ability to read and write
• A minimum of six months of paid experience in general laboring work
• Valid State of Ohio driver's license
• May require possession of a valid State of Ohio commercial driver's license (CDL class and endorsements as required by division)
• Basic knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment used in labor operations
• Ability to use small machines, hand and power tools, and less complex power equipment
• Ability to perform a variety of manual tasks
• Ability to understand and follow oral instructions
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor for long periods of time, often under adverse weather conditions

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience in a related field, such as construction, maintenance, or environmental conservation
• Knowledge of safety procedures and protocols
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
